C h a e's A i z u M a n g a T r a n s l a t i o n - I"s {Aizu} Volume 2 ISBN4-08-872412-7 Masakazu Katsura - translated by: Chae An chaean@hom.net T r a n s l a t i o n V2C11: Yawarakai Te: Tender Hand Page.66 p.1: I'm off. p.2: Ah... Good Mo... I mean, good morning.* * Itsuki starts saying "good morning" in English, then quickly corrects herself and says "good morning" in Japanese. p.3: Hey Yawn! p.4: p:5: Did you by chance fall asleep wearing your socks? Page.67 p.1: Hehe! I felt like it. p.2: ...You idiot... p.3: See ya. Ah! Hold on a sec. p.4: Eh. p.5: p.6: See you later.* * The Japanese "itterasshai" doesn't really have an equivalent in English. It's a "send off" phrase, and is usually particular to those situations. For example, a person leaving would say, "Ittekimasu," and the person sending off the person would say, "Itterasshai." This is said only when there is an expectation of a return; you would not normally say this when someone is leaving for good. As an aside, a person returning might say, "tadaima." Hehehe. Page.68 p.1: Damn, that Istuki.. What was she thinking!! p.2: Yo. p.3: Oh. Hmm... p.4: I see a kiss mark... p.5: Eh! Page.69 p.1: No way!! Really!? No way... Are you serious... * An astute reader will note that these two guys said the exact same thing but they were translated differently. p.2: Huh? p.3: This is the worst case senario... You've experienced the objective before I could... I didn't even dream of this possibility... That day... In one day you've cultivated such a profound relationship Yoshizuki...* * Yoshizuki is Iori-chan's family name. The fool that I am, I just spent 30 minutes trying to translate "Yoshizuki" to fit into the context of this sentence... How embarassing... :) You too are a resourceful person... p.4: What are you talking about. I was just joking about the kiss mark... But could it be it's for real... p.5: Hey you. You think I can do such a thing? That's why I said it as a joke. p.6: Look at me. Do these look like the eyes of a jigolo!? Page.70 p.1: WA! p.2: Morning! Iori-chan! p.3: Teratani-kun! What happened. Where did you go last Saturday? Ah, well, that is... Page.71 p.1: We did various things that day... p.2: Right, Seto-kun? p.3: p.4: You jerk, you really did!! U... Page.72 p.1: WAAAAAAA. p.2: p.3: Hey there, you! Eh... p.4: Do you want to join our high school's idol "Iori Yoshizuki" fan club? p.5: ... p.6: Should I join... p.7: Are you an idiot!! Page.73 p.1: p.2: Eh? That girl's from your elementary school days... p.3: Why is she at your house? Dunno... I don't even know why she's back. p.4: Hey you... Could it be... Hey. You know how it's easy to engage yourself to be married when you're just kids. Maybe it's a situation like that? Page.74 p.1 Uwa! You are feeling down. * This is a guess. Teratani says "Kotekote dana" and in my dictionary, "kotekote" is defined as "thickly/heavily." Isn't it like that after all? It can't be... p.2: ...But... Iori-chan thinks that Itsuki and I are still going out... 'She said, "If you love me, say it with some force," didn't she? If you don't make that perfect, I'll feel bad for her.' p.3: Anyway, Iori-chan sure is something else... Even having her own fan club... p.4: Perhaps I can't get that close to her... Page.75 p.1: Hey but... You can't rule out that she didn't really want to suggest that you confess your feeling to Itsuki. Huh? What do you mean? p.2: Well maybe, for sake of hiding her excitement... At any rate, she said something opposite to her real feeling. p.3: It can't be... I didn't see it like that... p.4: You idiot... Yoshizuki's in the drama club. p.5: Page.76 p.1: No way! No way!! p.2: Anyway, it's not that bad. You don't have to feel so sad, right? p.3: Go for it, Ichitaka! I'll support you!! p.4: I know your real purpose. What are you talking about, Ichitaka-kun. Hmph, if I say it... p.5: First of all, I have to clear up that misunderstanding about Itsuki!! [cap] - After School - Page.77 p.1: It's simple really... p.2: I'll just say, "You're mistaken about Itsuki and I." p.3: I'll have plenty of during during that blessed "two-in-a-coat" drama practice!!* * "Two-in-a-coat" is apparently a sort drama genre where two people get in one overcoat and act a sequence. I'm not sure what it is, but in the later chapter, there's an example of it. And that is the extent of my knowledge in this "two-in-a-coat." As for why it is blessed, just think "close bodily contact." (I think) :) p.4: It's gonna be easy!! p.5: ! Page.78 p.1: We've gathered this many people for the club! Could you extend your official recognition to our club? Please! Please! p.2: p.3: There are this many people who like Iori-chan... p.4: That's obvious, I suppose. She's cute enough to appear on the magazine's gravure page... Page.79 p.1: It... It's a bit embarassing. I was too absorbed in my own trouble. p.2: p.3: Somehow... I feel ashamed... p.4: Ah Seto-kun!! p.5: Page.80 p.1: p.2: LET'S GO! EH! Page.81 p.1: Who the heck is that!! A sudden spate of good luck!! p.2: For the first time, I touched Iori-chan's skin! Such a tender hand.* * "Sugee" here is a contraction of "sugoi," which can be translated as "great." But I thought "Great tender hand" may evoke an image of a huge, spongy hand, so instead decided to translate it like this. I feel giddy... p.3: I feel like I was handpicked from a crowd. I could develop of superiority complex from this...* * This is a rather long translation from a short Japanese phrase, but I think this captures the feeling well. Page.82 p.1: Incredible... You having a fan club... p.2: Somehow, it's embarassing... p.3: They'll misunderstand about you and me... p.4: It's so vexing!* * "Komaru" can mean to be "worried" or "concerned" or "embarassed" or "vexed" or suffering" and so on. It's actually pretty difficult for me to choose the right one for each time she is using this word, and I'm sure other translators and students of Japanese might have made different choices. p.5: She's saying it so vehemently. I feel like I made you cheat on your girlfriend...* * This is a guess based on context and a part of the sentence. My dictionary does not have "uramare" but "ura" means "back" or "hidden," among others. Page.83 p.1: Eh. Great, I'm getting a free one here! I can smoothly change the subject to talk about Itsuki!! p.2: Ah... You know... p.3: ! p.4: It... Itsuki!!? Why is she here at the school!! If she sees her, the story's going to get more complicated!! Really!!! End V2C11 Next translation: V2C12: Koi no Haitekunikku: Love's High Technique* * Yeah, I have no idea what this means either. Maybe I can figure it out by the context of the story once I start the translation. :) Last revised: 12-22-97 4:22PM EST
